Burnaby NewsLeader: John Kwok ‘acts horrified’ as Godzilla unleashed at recent Nikkei Matsuri

Recently the Vancouver LEGO Club participated in Nikkei Place’s Japanese Night Market called Nikkei Matsuri. At our display Godzilla could be seen coming out of the water unleashing his reign of terror on the rest of our display, or the hapless Baywatch girl in the bikini. VLC member, John Kwok, was the builder of the terrifying Godzilla as well as a sumo wrestling scene, images of which can be found on our photo gallery.

Apparently, this is John “acting” horrified. I think he best stick to his day job and building awesome LEGO creations.

Thank you for attending Nikkei Matsuri 2013!

Thank you so much for all of you who came out to the Nikkei Matsuri 2013 at Nikkei Place in Burnaby. Our members had a good challenge on their hand to custom build a lot of Japanese creations. We brought Godzilla who mercifully did not attack Tokyo’s iconic Skytree Tower but instead ate a helpless minifig, Horyu-Ji Temple in Nara Prefect was (artistically being attacked by blue ninjas), a beautiful cherry blossom tree with a lone samurai riding off from his wife, a kabuki theatre, rice patties and a bamboo grove. As well as a sumo wrestling ring with two oversizes wrestlers.

If you missed out on seeing our builds, I have just uploaded a photo gallery. Otherwise, make sure to mark down your calendars for next year!

Job Fair – Looking for Brick Specialists – LEGO Brand Retail – Guildford Mall, Surrey, BC

Showing the evolution of the minifiiure customization needed for my LEGO® Brand Retail Store models. The first minifigure was 100% purist... I have since deviated a bit from that path. ;)
All LEGO® employee decals (aside from the figure shown in "2009") were created by myself in Adobe Photoshop and with my friend John Varvir's assistance converted into Adobe Illustrator for decal printing.
---------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------
LEGO®, the LEGO® logo, the brick and knob configurations, and the minifigure are registered trademarks of the LEGO® Group 2011.

Nikkei Matsuri: The Heart of Nikkei – Aug 31st and Sept 1st – Nikkei Place

The Vancouver LEGO Club is excited to be working with the Nikkei Place Foundation in bringing our interpretations of Japanese culture and heritage to their Nikkei Matsuri: The Heart of Nikkei. One of the structures we are currently building for this event is the famous Skytree Tower. As well you’ll see a Japanese pagoda or castle scene, and who knows even Godzilla might make an appearance.

What is Nikkei Matsuri?

Nikkei Matsuri: The Heart of Nikkei is coming! It’s the first time we are running this Japanese children and family festival at Nikkei Place.

On August 31 and September 1, Nikkei Place will host Nikkei Matsuri: The Heart of Nikkei. Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre will be transformed into an indoor Japanese festival that will be divided into a kids zone – full of Japanese cultural games – and performance hall – where we will have Japanese food, vendors and performances.

At Nikkei Matsuri: The Heart of Nikkei we want to recognize the cultural significance of Japanese Immigrants’ contribution to the Nikkei Community. We also want to share Japanese culture with all Canadians. We hope to give all an authentic Japanese experience without visiting Japan!

For more information visit their website: http://festival.nikkeiplacefoundation.org/

Nikkei Place is located at:

Thanks for coming! Family FUSE Weekend – Saturday LEGO Creations

Family Fuse WeekendFor those of you who came out to Family FUSE Weekend on Saturday at the Vancouver Art Gallery we’ve got some of the photos of your creations captured here on our website

Unfortunately, I forgot to charge all 3 of my DSLR batteries plus on top of that having a bad setting means the first 88 photos I took didn’t come out at all. So the rest were taken on my camera phone. Hopefully though you can find yours amongst all the fantastic creations. Thanks for building buildings with us.

And for those of you who haven’t come down, there’s always today (June 9th)! I know one young boy is coming down again to continue working on his creation.

It might take us awhile to get the Sunday photos up, as I won’t be there today and I’ll have to get the images from another member.

June 2013 – LEGO Oakridge Community Showcase – Randall’s Pirate display

We had a VLC member contest in May to build an incredible display for the LEGO Oakridge Community Showcase. The winner Randall, literally filled the entire box from edge to edge with his Arrrr-some Pirate display. (the jokes don’t get any better, probably worse) Check it out for yourself for the entire month of June, to the left of the LEGO Pick a Brick wall.
