I imagine everyone got th e-mail this morning regarding the Black Friday sale from Lego.com. Just in case you didn't, it combines the free shipping with $10 off $100, $20 off $200 or $30 off $300. Valid from Nov 28th to Dec 1st.
I've shipped to The Letter Carrier in Point Roberts before for books and not been dinged but has anyone done so for Lego? I guess it's probably a hit or miss thing. If you haven't used their services before, they charge US$2 to receive items to the office. It's like the first building on the right after you cross the Point Roberts border crossing.
Even though the exchange rate isn't at parity, it's still better than the fixed 1.5 and our taxes. (unless I get dinged at the border)
I'm contemplating the Giant Chess Set, so this might be as good as it gets.

Yes, its only 1 tax. For BC, Alberta, Ontario is 5% GST. I'm not sure bout the other provinces. And it ships from lego Canada Warehouse. We don't have a factory here. But its still cheaper to buy at a store.
Some people are smart and went to USA to purchase lego today. 5am most stores opened for blackfriday.
USA residents are so lucky. We in canada don't get these awesome deals. sigh.. The best was when Zellers did their Buy 1 get 1 1/2 price. (max at 25% off) Compare it with Toysrus in USa. Its buy 2 get 1 free (max at 33% off)
Target has imperial star destroyer lego star wars 40% off ($59.99)
Wal-Mart has castle siege 50% off ($49.99)
Below is Toysrus Sale.
BF Friday: Bionicle sale
All of these 50% off:
Gadunka
Maxilos and Spinax
Barraki Deepsea Patrol
Toa Undersea Attack
All Aqua Raiders are 50% off. And most of those should already be on clearence anyway.
Aqua base Invasion - 30.00
Crab Crusher - 20$
Tiger Shark Attack - 15$
Those are the only stock numbers in the Add, so I can't gaurantee
the other sets.
The only other deals are:
Mars Mission Armored Drilling Unit 35% off
Star Wars MTT 35$ off.

Point of clarification. I intend to order from the US site and ship to a US address and pay in US funds, that's why I mentioned being dinged at the border. However, I notice that there was some account verification process where you had to stipulate which country you were from which may put a crimp in those plans. I'll order tomorrow and find out.
By the way has anybody paid duty at the border on Lego and how much was it? I'm looking for information from people who paid, not those who didn't. Congrats to those who got through the border untaxed.

Well unless you know someone living in USA. Otherwise they won't ship to Canada if you purchase from the USA site. And you have to tell your relative/friend from USA to ship to you. Canada Post does not charge customs if the item is under $20 CAD. If it is marked as gift, I think its anything under $60 or $50 CAD. I can't remember. But for me, i used to buy from eBay. Its cheaper. I brought the imperial landing craft for $40 USD which at that time is $40 CAD. Now it isn't that good deal since $1.00 USD = $1.20 CAd.
If you're bringing LEGO across the border (whether you do it in person, or you receive it in the mail), you won't ever get charged duty.chump wrote:By the way has anybody paid duty at the border on Lego and how much was it? What they MIGHT charge you, however, is tax: 5% GST + 7% PST. Whether they ding you or not depends on how how much you're bringing across... But it's really hit or miss - sometimes you'll get lucky. Of course, if you're down in the US for a few days, you qualify for a personal exemption:
24+ hours: CAN$50 duty & tax free
48+ hours: CAN$400 duty & tax free
7+ days: CAN$750 duty & tax free
If you receive a parcel/package by Canada Post and they do charge you taxes, there will be a $5 handling fee too.
