I recently acquired these 4 TRU store displays containing Star Wars sets. I am pretty excited as these are very hard to come by these days.
Yes the models are glued, but that doesn't matter to me as they are complete with display and backdrop which adds to their value.
I thought I would share as I know some of you are fans.

Re: Recent purchase
You know between this and the MaxiFig, I'm really starting to hate you.....
Just kidding! Congratulations. Star Wars ain't my thing so it's no biggie to me. Are you able to tell us the story of how you acquired it? Or how much you paid for it?

Re: Recent purchase
coincidently, our next Christmas meeting will be held at Slogghead's place and the value of our annual gift exchange will now be what ever these are worth

Re: Recent purchase
I'm interested in the story of how you acquired these as well. I heard these displays are supposed to be destroyed after their shelf life. And not sold or given to anyone including employees.

Re: Recent purchase
I saw them posted on Craigslist in Dallas Tx (where my parents live) and I was the first to respond. well, actually he only had 3 of them up for sale. He sent an email back right away explaining he still had them and I was the first to respond. I was delighted. I negotiated a price and he agreed. I asked if he had anything else for sale and he said he had one more Star Wars display just like the others and said it had an AT-TE...I cut him off and said "I WANT IT". he threw it it for a little bit more( I will not release what I paid...even though it was a steal...hehe).
I asked him how he got these as they do not show up for sale that often. He said his neighbor was a district manager for TRU and she gave them to him as she had several. He is a huge collector, but he was moving to a smaller house and needed to downsize his collection. He said that these never made it to the store and were brand new essentially. One even has the instruction manual for TRU employees to "set up" the display.
I contacted my dad and he picked them up for me...now to get them to Vancouver as they are 47"W x 18"H x 16"d and about 30lbs each...haha. My dad asked one of his customers and they agreed to crate it up and ship it to Blaine for next to nothing. I picked it up, broke open the crate and stuffed them into my CR-V.
The border guard asked what they were, I told her the were display cases with LEGO in them...dull look on her face...and replied "what?" I told her I bought them on Craigslist and they are for my collection. She asked what I paid and if I plan on selling them, I said "no, just put them on display". She asked "and do what with them on display?" I said "look at them in my nerd room" haha. She handed back my passport and said "have fun with your nerd room!" and I drove home smiling all the way.

This is very true, they were to be destroyed or sent back to LEGO and I am now a proud owner of 4 of these. They have built in lights and batteries for sound. They had very little damage from the long travel and they now stand in my storage room where I swear I go and look at them at least twice a day...haha!brankell5566 wrote:I'm interested in the story of how you acquired these as well. Re: Recent purchase

And how about those maxi-figs Chump mentioned?

Re: Recent purchase
The MaxiFig was something that popped up on Vancouver Craigslist for $10...yes that is right...haha. I was the first to respond and nabbed it that night. I bought it off a mom who said her son was given it as a gift from a friend. She was happy it was going to a good home and I was happy that it cost me less than a medium pizza!brankell5566 wrote:Sweet! I remember seeing a display case near the registers at Metrotown TRU a really long time ago. I believe they were selling it for $50. Didn't buy it since the sets were glued and I thought it was a waste of money back then.

Needless to say there were several VLC members who also responded to the ad, but where greeted with disappointment as the seller told them someone was coming by to buy it...
