A Guide to Building a Medieval Village - Derfel Cardarn

Post by chump »

Here is a blogsite/thread with a Guide to Building a Medieval Village. If you've been wondering what to do with those trans-light blue 8x8 plates, wonder no more.

The existing original forum thread is on Eurobricks, but has been consolidated on to a blogspot page at:

You haven't even left and you're having trouble remembering us already?

Fortunately, we haven't implimented the Victoria-Vancouver firewall yet, so you'll be able to visit our humble site any time you wish.

Oh... You probably meant the other site.... My bad.

I really like the instructions and his overall work, but i do have a huge dislike for 'rock walls' in that style of multicolored 1x1 round plates stacked, just an eye sore & hard to look at :(

I wonder if he combined the effect with 1x1 plates would it create a more interesting look?

varying the use of regular & round plates would probably improve the look- but I'd imagine mostly regular plates, and some round added in for texture effect.

I have to disagree about the wall. I rather like it. I think it can be over used and the number of colours can often be too many. It is the texture that I really like. :D

Adding the 1x1 plates would add a coarser or smoother texture as desired. You could have it flat or at an angle. (I think).

doubt it. the diameter of round is smaller than the hypotenuse of the 1x1 plate i'd say

Not really sure of your point here. Do I need to build you an example.

I think Radstar is right and I'm wrong in that you can't turn the 1x1 plate a bit, when next to a 1x1 round. Darn, geometry! Of course, I'd love to be proven wrong about being proven wrong!

The angle would not work if turned the plates to have the corners all the way out but you do have a little play there. Mixing the plate and the round plate has a nice look if done well.
