So I took advantage of Toys'R'Us promotion a week ago where you buy 2 Lego City sets you get 15% off and buy 3 sets you get 25% off. I placed my order online since the Fire Brigade #10197 is categorized in the City section. I ordered three of the Fire Brigade early Friday morning (2 AM). The price does not reflect a 25% discount but I go ahead and complete the order anyways since their buy 2/3 promos never work properly online (online price $200). I call back later that morning to confirm I will receive a 25% discount as part of the promo and after several minutes of pointing out the advertisement in my local TRU flyer they agree to the 25% discount. My order already shipped and my credit card was charged so they issue a credit of $150+tax.
Purolator attempts to deliver on the following Friday along with another package from NewEgg but I am not home and they leave a note to pickup my orders at the depot in Richmond. Monday morning, me and the kids head out to Richmond near the airport to pickup our packages. The lady behind the desk at Purolator brings out my rice cooker from NewEgg and asks me "should I bring out the other 3 boxes?". She whispers softly looking at my kids, "they're not boxed." I'm thinking in my head, 'what do you mean they're not boxed?' I agree and she brings out the other 3 boxes... my jaw drops as I gaze upon 3 Lego City Fire Brigades #10197 tagged with shipping labels and crushed from the delivery process. Boxes stressed like an elephant sat on it, corners ruffled and torn, taped seals no longer holding the flaps shut and tracking labels with a packing slip taped to the front of the box. An AFOL's worst nightmare come to life! I take my ruined Lego sets and perfectly boxed rice cooker home.
When I get home I call TRU customer services and explain the situation and attempt to speak to a supervisor, no luck they're all busy. I try back after lunch, they're still busy and the service agent tells me they're out of stock on that item and I'd have to wait upto 24 hours for a supervisor to call me back. In other words, no chance of a replacement. I'd have to ship it all back to get a full refund or return to store for store credit. After 24 hours without a word I call back and try to speak to a supervisor. This time I'm in luck but he can't do much other than suggest a 15% discount or return it. "15 F***ing Percent?!" for boxes that were crushed and open, no way! He offers to pass me along to his supervisor but I'd have to wait for a call back. This is where my story ends as I'm waiting for the call back.
What kind of idiot ships a product in its original, illustrated box without double boxing?!
I hope this has a happy ending...

Ouch, that's just horrible. If you wanted those sets for the parts, I'd take the additional 15% off... but if you're a collector, then the sets are no good...

BTW, here's some pictures...
The box that's not opened is the one with the packing slip label. Doesn't matter since they all have tracking labels taped on them.
Not even good for a gift.

Wow that sucks. I don't buy for the boxes but that still hurts. If there were parts missing, then I would be mad.
Re: ToysRUs.ca Shipping Story
Maybe they were low on boxes

I looked at the logo on the label and did a double take thinking they were LEGO designedGumby wrote:You have an unopened storage chest? What's wrong with you?!

Well one man's food is another mans poison, or so the saying goes. I would have picked up the upbaoxed sets with delight, for two reasons.
1) I would have been trilled that they did not waste their time (my money/cost) on double boxes, and creating all that extra garbage.
2) I often struggle to put the box in the recycling if it's good condition, knowing that I might want it one day, but allas I have to cause I have no space to store boxes and already have a few hundred folded up that fill a closet at my dads place (that I will one day need to go and deal with). A damaged box is an easy through away without a second thought, except for my concern about all the packaging waste and energy cost of recycling. If only I could re-purpose the box..

There's 2 more behind the Fire Brigades.Gumby wrote:You have an unopened storage chest? What's wrong with you?!

As a side note, check out Canadian Tire's Boxing Week Sale for 3-drawer storage chests for $9.99. If they're the same ones as they had before, you can adjust the drawers and stack them up higher.
