BrickLink Orders From USA

Post by beethead »

Have a question for all those fans who use BrickLink and buy from the US.
What is the highest declared value of a package anyone has received from the USA without having to pay taxes? According to the Canada Post site, they start collecting taxes on items valued at $20 or more. I believe items marked as gifts start at $60 before they collect taxes. Of course asking a seller to fudge the declared value of a customs form would be sinful but I don't see anything wrong about packages being declared as a "gift" (to myself).

there is no consistency. I've been dinged on $20 orders and have had $100+ orders come duty free. (both ebay and bricklink) The only constant seems to be with UPS. they always add the taxes plus their own broker fee regardless. avoid sellers who only offer UPS for Canadian shipping. USPS (united states postal service) is usually cheaper and will arrive duty free 4 times out of 5. (in my experience)
