What do you do when you have too many of an individual part?

Post by 03SilveradoLS »

This is most of my Technic collection. Unfortunately I have too many of some parts, they don't really "fit" into my organizing system. What do you guys do when you have that problem? I'm thinking that I might start selling some and then buy other parts that I would like more of. My biggest problem though is that I just can't seem to let any pieces go!

One day when I finally feel like my collection is complete, I am going to take pictures and create a complete inventory list. I think I have started to enjoy collecting more than building.

Nice collection,I too have a problem with wanting to collect more than I build.I stated before I"ve wanted to have enough themed pieces to create anything for a show or event.I originally just wanted enough to build my own train layout, then have to get some castle, pirate, then technic and so on.I too have thought recently about selling some items I might have too much of,but you never know when those pieces might come in handy.

If Lego keeps putting out these great sets ,like last year and 2008 it's going to be hard to stop collecting .I wish I had spent more at Bellvue,That 5 bucks a bag for Pab parts was excellent .You know you didn't spend enough when your wife isn't mad at you at what you came back with.Maybe you and graham can swap some technic parts? He was looking for some items ,I'm sure you read on the forum.

Happy hunting ,and building --Andrew

You too huh?

I think I am happy at stopping my collection at late 1990's type parts. The liftarms and studless beams I can really do without. Well, I should have some but I don't like building with them. I'm not even going to buy the 8275 Bulldozer.

And colours? Where do I stop here? I was originally going to stick with white, grey, black, red, blue & yellow. But I think I have decided to add green and dark grey to that list. If I do that though, I can't help but wonder if my addiction will morph into adding orange, light blue etc. And what do I do with Bley??? Arrgh! Frustrating.

I guess I kind of want to ramble on about LEGO. I really should get rid of my excess technic beams, you know the ones that overflow the partitions of the Plano boxes, but I can't. It's like you say, you never know when you *might* need them for something! lol

I'm trying to get myself to start selling my 1980's town sets.

please sir, might you spare a few parts?, i always can use more stuff.i never have enough technic beams, i use them up.

when you have too many of something, build with using them up in mind, technic is always good for railway bridges, center supports for large constructions to quickly fill space etc.

who.

If I decide to sell the excess I will first offer them here (unless greed gets me, then I'll use Ebay). Yellow 1x16's, I think I have about 250 of them (I think I should count).

See I keep expecting myself to finish "Collecting" so I can start building. I guess more or less what I need to do is finish getting organized. Sometimes I procrastinate.

I'm curious, how many Technic builders are there here at the VLC?

that pedends on what you call "a technic builder". I would not count myself as one but i hide a lot of technic in what i build for mechanical uses. I enjoy building things that work and enjoy the general look or the regular LEGO.
