Since I'm unavailable to volunteer or head down to the store on Sunday I'm planning to get my parents to spend $35 there without the discount to get the minifigs, just wondering how early they need to get there because I doubt they line up for me for it.

Store opens at 9am, I'll be there for the opening that day, I could pick them up for you, save your parents a trip?

I thought they only needed us for when the mall is open too, but apparently there is some prep and takedown work for the model that goes past Mall Opening hours.

Go to the @VanLegoClub twitter stream for photos of the Vancouver Oakridge Lego Store Grand Opening at about 9:10am -9:30am. https://twitter.com/#!/vanlegoclub

Line up wasn't too bad at that time. But it's probably going to be much worse Saturday, as most people seem to want the Lego Store model out of the three being offered.

I'd say that's a good time to go in order to receive a Lego model. However, most people are after that one though and it's not like today where a good chunk of people are busy. Hopefully somebody who's there today can get a sense of when they ran out of supply.

It was advertised the first 300 people get the promo item for the day but the promo set I received says #445 out of #500 so I assume they have at least 450 of each to give away.

Are you talking about the Mini Store set or the Minifigure set? I know the minifig set is numbered but I am unsure about the Store set. If the store set was numbered, it would be a great collectors item.

Hi I am a newbie here...wondering how many of you venture out to the store this morning. I got there at 730am and there were 60 ahead of me. By the time I left at 1020am the lineup was all the way to Scotia Bank! It was insane.

I'm actually right infront of the apple store right now, setaling their wifi. :D Anyways, I got to the mall right before 8:00 am and there were already over a hundred people in line. Got into the store at about 10:45 and left at 11:15. Also got a picture with master model builder Erik. And I believe the guy infront of my was "chump", the one interviewed by the province newspaper. All in all a great day for me, got myself the car and caravan and a brick calendar.

If you stick around they do Lego trivia at least twice a day. It gives the volunteers at the build time to catch up. I saw some of the prizes were the knight bus and batman sets.

I was in a black suit jacket and shirt this morning from about 9am to 10am, just wandering about talking to people and checking out the lineup. Feel free to introduce yourself and say hi, if you see me again. I'll be there from noon to 5pm tomorrow. I met Northof49 this morning. Hopefully we'll see him at the next meeting. Hope Peter has a big common room. We may have a bunch of new people attending for the first time. (okay, maybe 5 new people)

Did you get the get the mini store model, brankell?

The first person in line was at 5:30am. A high school friend with her kids were in about 20 people behind him and they came at 7:00.

Hi Lawrry, welcome to the boards. A number of the VLC members were helping out with the event today but I did see one of our members in line today.

Wow! That was just crazy! I am so glad that I arrived when I did. Only 60 or so people ahead of me but the time flew by while I was talking to others in line and also met chump. Nice to talk to you! :) Picked up my Lego store exclusive and will be sitting down to build it in a minute or two. Build a few bricks for the R2 D2 build and All in all a great day and alot of fun meeting so many people volunteering from VLC. I just have to try and make it to one of the meetings now.

I got there with my 2 kids around 9:30 AM and the line up was all the way out to the Scotia Bank as mentioned. By the time we got up to Purdy's where the lineup snaked up and down there were only 20 or so promo sets left and probably 80+ people still waiting to get in the door. The guy behind me went up to the front of the store and asked people coming out of the store if they wanted to sell their promo set. He ended up paying $50 for one. A couple wearing Brickcon 2011 name badges behind me also seem to give up waiting in line after 3 hours. Finally got into the store close to 3 PM and picked up a small Friends set and filled my PAB cup. My daughter won a Friends set at the builders event when they were doing some trivia. The kids also built a few blocks for the big display while I waited in line. Atleast they didn't have to stand in line for so long. Was this worth the 5 hours of standing in line? Lets just say I won't be lining up for any grand opening for quite some time. I feel sorry for the grandmother behind us who came out with her grandson from Maple Ridge and stood with me in line for 5 hours. BTW, people were still lined up to get into the Lego Store when we left the mall close to 4 PM.

Perhaps this is an indication that there might be room in Metro Vancouver for more than one Lego Store?

Forgot to mention, does anyone know who the guy was standing near the R2-D2 in the LEGO Universe jacket? He looks awfully familiar but I just can't think of the place I've seen him before.
