April Competition - Alternate Set Build

Post by Bricksky »

Rebrickable.com is running a competition for April 2014.

Create and submit a MOC using only the parts from any single set of your choice, as long as it has between 150-300 parts and was released in 2013 or later.

So... If you have or soon purchase a set that meets this criteria, why not challenge yourself to build something NEW with it!

Who knows, you could win $100!

Contest detail here: http://rebrickable.com/blog/2014/moc-al ... tion-april

ps. I have no specific plans for this contest, but if I get a new set that qualifies I will build something and submit it!

If you build something, please take a pic and add it to this topic, or post a link to your submission!

...its just too easy...

Anyone else stepping up for this one?!

Hard to believe this is a LEGO CLUB and so few of us actually build stuff just for fun...
(Yes, that was a jab to hopefully provoke a response! haha)

Rebrickable makes it easy, they even have a link that displays all the qualifying sets you can use...

and... and... You can build ANYTHING YOU LIKE! no restrictions...

In fact I'm sure the judges will tell you EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!

still no takers?! come on!!!! JUST DO IT! You know you want to..

I know what you mean Tyler. I bought those red Mixels just to kick around and have some fun with. Have I opened them yet? Nope.

I'm glad that you're out there doing what we're supposed to be doing and that's building with LEGO for fun and recreation. I also greatly appreciate you championing these build competitions as well as competing in them.

I think most of us are so behind on our sorting and organizing that we look at our mess of a room and just walk away . I know my lego room has been under construction for at least 9 months

I was working on a MOC last week (not for this contest, just for fun) when one of our sets of drawers started to tip over. Everything on top slid off and crashed into some other MOCs, the drawers all started to spill and as I spun around to try and catch it I knocked the baseplates of the MOC I'd been working on for a while off the table. It crashed into some of the kids stuff and shattered as the contents of the drawers poured over the remains. I'm still in mourning but hope to resurrect the MOC again, too bad I'm away for Easter that would be a fitting time to do it :) ...

Well I guess you can you can keep these closed for now as they don't meet the set requirement for at least 150 parts.

:? I hear you on the Sorting and Organizing part. I personally have no choice except to clean up after each MOC I complete, which often takes as long as the build itself. I don't really have any other choice as my Lego room is just a small section of our living room. As you can see in the pic below my MOC creation area is also limited to one very small coffee table, which is about the same size as a community window at the Lego store. One day I will have a dedicated LEGO room, but for now, this will do just fine.

 OMG! That is tragic news... I hope you can get it cleaned up, and restore the broken MOC's...

I feel for all of you, and all others who have some kind of LEGO BUILDING MOC CREATION AVERSION PROBLEM, I really do. Having said that, I also have a fairly inexpensive albeit temporary cure for your problem:

1) Go buy a smallish Lego set (150-300 parts). Many are on sale at London Drugs right now! In fact, yesterday I picked up a Tanker Truck for $17.99 (Set # 60016).

2) Go to your kitchen/living room and poor the parts out on the table... This way you won't need your Lego room to build, and no sorting or clean up is required before building...

3) Sort / Stare / Draft / Whatever... Get inspired by the bricks... What COULD IT BECOME???

4) Start building!

Yes, it's that simple folks. JUST DO IT! Let the building commence!

ps. I did make something last night with those Tanker Truck parts.. You can just see it on my table in the pic... Better photos coming soon...

I simply took a bunch of photos as I dismantled it, then put them into a series on 4 separate image files.

Hmmm, that would be interesting, but I don't have that set. Maybe you, or someone else can tackle that one!
