the Cavern of Time

Post by Jonathan S. »

This is not a new MOC, but I thought you guys might want to see some of the other things I can do with Lego bricks!

You know thats actually a really interesting and good MOC . You need to get a better camera to really give it justice i think . Taking photos with proper lighting and a backdrop can make all the difference

Compare the difference between one photo backdrop plus lighting vs the other .

Old Moc from way back , camera held by hand, no backdrop , CFL lights

Newer MOC with a white piece of paper for backdrop , Tripod with no flash, Natural light

I can show you some tricks at the meeting for photos

I agree it is quite interesting. At first I thought you spraypainted a bunch of them in a matte silver but I'm guessing it's just the lighting and that most if not all the pieces are black.

Very cool MOC, It really impressed me at first look.

I looked at all the pics, I also thought they were painted/spraypainted chrome.. which looked pretty cool but wasnt something I would do myself! But you said it's all black pieces- ah cool. Looks great in the pic anyway!

I liked the minifig Time Reaper :)

What is VIG ?

VIG is short for vignette. In Lego terms it's a scene that usually tells a story or a snapshot of one takes place completely on an 8x8 brick or plate. Some use a larger dimension. Because of that constraint a lot of builders go tall to great effect, such as Jonathan has.

Salthook was the smaller follow up of my other MOC Crawler town . Took a few hours to set up the camera and a couple more in photoshop but taking the time to take a great shot can make all the difference !

But really, that is the only thing that he has built without instructions. :p rotflol
Seriously now, Crawler Town is the single most famous MOC that anyone in the VLC has ever made.

There's instructions? I'm totally there. Can I buy the kit off the shelf? What's the age range?

Wait till Radstar finds out what happened to Crawlertown during the teardown at the Surrey Museum. Or was that Goliath?

We really should have been videotaping it. It was bound to happen at some point in time. Then again, I guess, the proper thing would actually be to have help him take it down, rather than try to make $10,000 on America's Funniest Home Videos.

Go to flickr and search for the VLC Lego. Tim has the pictures from the Surrey Museum Pirate Show there. You'll also find them under DeGobbi's user directory or whatever they call it.
