So, I finally found the issue as to why pictures post upside-down:
When you take a photo with a device like an iPhone it doesn't seem to properly insert the rotation metadata in the image. To fix this, before posting a photo do the following:
On an iPhone:
1 - Go to Photos and pull up the picture you plan to upload
2 - Tap on edit
3 - rotate the image even if it looks okay and click done (this will leave it at a bad rotation)
4 - edit the photo again and rotate it to the proper orientation and click done.
5 - upload your image as previous
This process will add the proper metadata to indicate the proper image rotation. Now your photo won't display upside-down in the forums.

Yeah I figured that out a week or so ago when emailing photos for work.
